UCLA Education Fund
Universidad
Cristiana de Las Américas
Purpose
The Scholarship program seeks to provide financial aid
to needy students who attend the Universidad Cristiana de Las Américas.
Recipients
Students who receive scholarships must meet four
requirements they must 1) give evidence of sincere walk with God and
presented a clear testimony among their fellow students, 2) maintain
an acceptable grade average, 3) accumulate few demerits, and 4) have a clear
and pressing financial need. Many of the students who benefit from this
program are children of pastors and/or students in the theology program of
the University. Because the University is committed to placing an
emphasis on the training of preachers, every student in the theology program
receives a 25% discount.
Room, Board and Tuition
University tuition is 7,270 pesos per trimester
(approximately $580 US dollars). The total tuition cost is therefore
approximately $1,740. Room and board is 5,400 pesos per trimester (US: $450
x 3 = $1,450 per year). Although these prices are very low compared to
colleges in the United States, these prices still present a formidable
obstacle for the average Mexican student.
Sponsors
Because the University is a missionary endeavor, the
University will seek sponsors in the United States. These sponsors
will be assigned a student. This student will communicate with his sponsor
at least twice per semester.
Amount of Commitment
Students may be supported for varying amounts and any
donation would be gratefully accepted. The recommended scholarship levels a
25% scholarship: $36 a month for tuition. If someone would like to sponsor a
student’s room, board and tuition, the monthly amount would be $66 a month.
A few students receive a 50% scholarship because of unusual circumstances or
because they work for the University during the school year. This
would be about $72 per month for tuition and the $132 per month for room,
board and tuition.
Duration of Commitment
In order to be a significant help to the student, we
ask that sponsors commit to helping the student through the end of the
school year (which usually ends in July/August and begins again in
September. If the student should not return at the trimester break, the
sponsor will be notified and be given an opportunity to sponsor another
student or opt out of the program. At the end of each school year, the
sponsor will be given the opportunity to continue sponsoring the same
student, sponsor a different student, or opt out of the program.
